Updates

I'm back!

You guys, I've rediscovered my passion for researching and writing about names. I took a long hiatus, focusing on graphic design work and family life. After discovering that the articles that appeared on CafeMom, NameCandy, and The Baby Name Wizard no longer had a home online, I decided to publish them here. (It's ok, my contract stated that I can do that!)

That reignited my naming spark, and new ideas started pouring in. Instead of feeling like I had to tackle rewriting every old article and fixing all the broken links, I decided to just start writing. I pulled out my name books, found old and new resources online, and got to work.

I'm loving EVERY minute of it! For example, last week my son was getting braces on for the first time, and I spent the two hours at a coffee shop researching and writing about names. It smelled like coffee, tasted like chai, sounded like chatter and jazz, and felt like heaven! This work is just my favorite thing to do.

My Name: Cora vs. Laura

Ironically, no one knows what to call me now. (Yeahhhh, you'd think someone who writes about names would have this figured out!)

My professional name for writing and creative work is always going to be Laura Emerson, mostly because I have a baby name book published under that name. But my "nickname" or name I'd like to go by casually, is Cora. You can use whatever you'd like.

By the way, if you're interested in renaming yourself as an adult, you're in good company.

Posts I've Refreshed So Far

In addition to publishing articles I originally wrote for other sites, I'm refreshing Nameisms original content. Here's a quick list of updated articles.
You'll also notice LOTS of brand-new articles on Nameisms! I've been having so much fun editing posts that never appeared here, and working on completely new content just for this blog.

There are almost too many new articles to list here (I may have gotten a little carried away!), so I'll let you discover them as you explore the blog. Take a look around, follow whatever catches your eye, and don't be surprised if you find yourself wandering down a few naming rabbit trails. I definitely have!

A Lil' Note About AI

As I've been bringing Nameisms back to life, I've also been experimenting with some new tools, including artificial intelligence.

I want to be transparent about how I use it. The articles on Nameisms are my own work, reflecting my interests, research, opinions, and writing style. I've been writing about names since looong before AI entered the picture!

Occasionally, I use AI as an editorial assistant to brainstorm, catch mistakes, or polish something I've already written. I review and revise the results, and the final editorial decisions are mine.

I've also been experimenting with AI-generated imagery for some articles and Pinterest graphics. It's saved me time that I can spend researching and writing! Other images are my own designs or come from traditional photography and illustration sources.

What hasn't changed is my voice and writing, my love of names, language, history, and all the delightful little stories that connect them. That's what Nameisms has always been about, and it always will be. Thanks for joining me here!
