Roman is a name that sounds fresh and well-traveled at the same time. It's a great name in the family of place names that has a lot of history associated with it, as Roman civilization dates back 12 centuries. Rome is also a romantic hot-spot, adding yet more desirability to the name. Even the word "romantic" comes from Rome! That's why this sweet and strong name is featured in my list of Baby Names for Valentine's Day.

Popularity
The name has been around longer than most people think, and appears in the top 1,000 names in America as early as the late 1800s. Over the past 20 years, the name really began to show more promise.

Several years ago, an acquaintance of mine renamed her son Roman after feeling the name she'd originally picked was overused. Now that Roman is #159 in America, I hope she doesn't have any regrets. Since the name is still considered non-traditional and is both cute and powerful sounding, I seriously doubt she does.

  1. The name Roman is an exhalent strong masculine boy’s name. This is my name and I am very grateful to have Roman as my name. People have remembered me because of the name Roman, and I have been complimented on my name when introducing myself to others, saying such comments as "I love that name, or I like that name very match!". I would definitely name my son Roman.
